Joker Mag

The internet is being flooded with new content fighting for your attention every single day.

And if you cruise social media, it feels like new email newsletters are popping up almost every hour.

If you’re a guy looking for the best free newsletters to subscribe to, you might be wondering which are actually your time.

Having worked in the media industry for over 7 years now – and running a sports newsletter myself – I’ve subscribed to plenty. Some are fantastic, while others are simply not worth the pixels they take up in your inbox.

The big names (that are worthwhile) will be included, but most people already know them, so this list will focus more on some of the overlooked publications floating around the web.

In my humble view, these are the top free newsletters for men right now.

1.) The Underdog Newsletter

The Underdog Newsletter landing page: The Best Sports Stories You've Never Heard. Discover the most inspiring underdog stories the mainstream media overlooks. Enjoyed by 20,000+ sports fans.

Who doesn’t love an underdog story?

The Underdog Newsletter breaks down the best underdog stories in sports, past and present. It captures the most inspiring, interesting, and entertaining stories all in one place.

You’ll find plenty of stories you’ve never heard, and learn lessons you can apply to your own life.

More than 21,000 sports fans love it and you will too. You can join here 👇

2.) Arnold’s Pump Club

Yes, Arnold writes a newsletter.

Yes, that Arnold.

After seeing Terminator 2 as a kid, I found my new second-favorite role model (my dad is #1) to emulate. I dressed up as The Terminator for Halloween in elementary school and even wrote a biography on him in 4th grade.

So you can imagine my excitement when he launched his newsletter, Arnold’s Pump Club.

It’s known as “The Positive Corner of The Internet” and “makes it easier to live a healthier, happier life without all the confusion and stress.”

You can join tons of intelligent and strong men here.

3.) Dude Stuff

Dude Stuff landing page: Join 1,000+ dudes getting their fix of fascinating articles—straight to your inbox every Friday.

This is a hidden gem.

Dude Stuff is a newsletter dedicated to “interesting articles that every dude can appreciate.”

Delivered every Friday, they focus on everything ranging from “Why Isn’t There a Bridge at the Strait of Gibraltar?” to “When Baseball Had a Cult“.

With Dude Stuff, you either get it or you don’t. It’s one of my favorite weekly pubs I get in my inbox.

You can join 1,000+ dudes here for free.

4.) The Daily Friday

Friday Beers is building a massive media brand on the back of comedy content. If you’re the type of guy to scroll YouTube Shorts or TikTok, you’ve definitely come across their stuff.

I love this one because they break down the news in a way that feels like you’re talking to a friend at a bar. They also cover some of the random and hilarious things happening across the internet, like the man who lived underwater for 120 days just to prove a point.

You can join 150K other guys here.

5.) The Hustle

This is the one that got me into newsletters to begin with.

The Hustle is a must-read for ambitious guys interested in business, startups, and tech. It’s a breezy read full of entertaining and insightful news summaries.

The staff has changed a bit since HubSpot acquired them, but it hasn’t impacted the content too heavily.

You can join 1.5 million readers here.

6.) Go Long

I see Tyler Dunne as one of the best sports journalists in media today.

He describes his Go Long newsletter as “humanizing pro football journalism”. And I couldn’t think of a better way to put it.

His profiles, Q&As, podcasts, and long-form deep dives capture the true spirit of football.

Even if you’re not a huge NFL fan, it puts a fresh spin on behind-the-scenes stories that you can talk about with your friends and co-workers.

You can join the free version of his newsletter right here.

7.) The 3-2-1 Newsletter

James Clear's 3-2-1 Thursday newsletter

James Clear is known for his best-selling book, Atomic Habits. And his 3-2-1 newsletter is an extension of that.

This reader quote sold me on it: “The most wisdom per word of any newsletter on the web.”

Each email includes 3 short ideas from James, 2 quotes from others, and 1 question for you to think about, like this one:

How do you want to feel at the end of today? What do you need to do now, so you can feel this way?

If this kind of stuff speaks to you, join over 3,000,000 readers here.

8.) Art of Manliness

If you’ve been around long enough, you’ve definitely come across the Art of Manliness in some capacity.

Their website has a slick, old-school look that feels like reading a retro magazine. The newsletter is no different: it’s full of advice on getting “strong, skilled, and social”.

To give you a taste of their range, they cover everything from “How to Fall Asleep in 2 Minutes or Less” to tips on being a successful father.

The AoM newsletter boasts 53,000 readers as of today, and you can join them here.

9.) Books & Biceps

Jon Finkel’s brainchild boasts a “strong meathead community helping dudes and dads read more, lift more & live awesome.”

It’s a part of my weekly rotation because it’s exactly as advertised: it always covers at least one book and one way to improve your fitness – the perfect mix for any gym-goer who enjoys a good read.

With a readership that includes John Cena, Mark Cuban, and more, it’s safe to say you’ll be in good hands when you subscribe.

10.) Midlife Male

Midlife Male Magazine issue number 1 features Troy Aikman

Described as “the fastest growing lifestyle brand for men over 40”, this newsletter hit the ground running immediately.

Featuring interviews with the likes of Troy Aikman and Laird Hamilton, they’re quickly turning this email newsletter into a premium digital magazine.

You can join their rapidly growing base of readers here.

11.) The InsideHook Newsletter

The InsideHook Newsletter: Recommendations, insights and advice to help you become a cooler, more likable and generally enviable person.

InsideHook was one of the first newsletters I ever subscribed to. And I’ve proudly been a reader since 2013.

Their tagline is: “Recommendations, insights and advice to help you become a cooler, more likable and generally enviable person.”

How can you resist that?

You can join their huge list of readers here.

Division III baseball alum (McDaniel College), founder of Joker Mag, and author of The Underdog Mentality: Sports Stories That Will Change How You See the Game (And Yourself). Since launching in November 2017, my stories have been featured on platforms such as FOX Sports, SB Nation, and The Sporting News, reaching over 1.5 million readers worldwide. The seed was planted way back in 7th grade when I got cut from the baseball team. Instead of giving up, I found hope and inspiration in stories of undersized athletes who defied expectations. I ultimately played baseball through college, earning Honorable Mention on the All-Centennial Conference team in my senior season. Today, my mission is simple: To share stories that give people the same feeling I felt when I was that undersized ballplayer searching for hope, inspiration, and evidence that my dream was possible. Like my mom always told me, you can do anything you set your mind to. Sometimes we just need a little extra push. And that’s why I’m so passionate about sharing these stories with the world.
