I hate to say it. But it’s true. And the fact of the matter is most people look the other way. They disregard it. Choosing to remain ignorant rather than doing something about it.
The reality?
Most twenty-somethings have no clue what they’re doing with their lives.
Not just in the corporate world either. There’s nothing wrong with working the 9 to 5. No one blames you for following the blueprint that society has laid out.
While you may think otherwise, work is not the issue. Your mindset is.
Here’s why.
Most of the time, you’re thinking about what’s wrong in your life. Re-living the past. Wondering why things aren’t the way you want them to be.
All the while, not realizing this negative energy is bringing similar feelings your way.
When I first learned about the law of attraction, it was from the story of Conor McGregor. While many view him as an arrogant athlete, he’s really just a man with an impenetrable mindset.
The fact is, you can change your life by simply changing how you feel. The way you take things. What you let in versus what you keep out.
Rhonda Byrne’s “The Secret” is your starting point for this mindset shift.
Going through the book, I dog-eared pages that resonated most with me. Hopefully these simple mental cues will make just as an enormous impact in your life as they have in mine.
How to Use The Law of Attraction
Many critics of the law of attraction will say they don’t believe in it because they didn’t see instant results. Truth is, what you want isn’t going to come overnight.
If you’re looking for instant gratification, go hop on Tinder or something. You’re in the wrong place.
In this particular chapter, Byrne talks about how to employ the law of attraction:
“How it will happen, how the Universe will bring it to you, is not your concern or job…When you are trying to work out how it will happen, you are emitting a frequency that contains a lack of faith — that you don’t believe you have it already.”
Self-doubt is the killer of dreams. If there’s even an ounce of doubt in you, you’ve already failed.
After harsh criticism and ridicule for his vision of the motor vehicle, Henry Ford famously said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right.”
The Secret to Money
Everyone wants money. Not for the feeling of the green paper in their hands, but for the possibilities it creates.
Problem is, most people are focusing on the need for more money. You need to do the opposite.
Byrne explains:
“It is impossible to bring more money into your life when you are noticing you do not have enough, because that means you are thinking thoughts that you do not have enough.”
The basic rule of The Secret is that like attracts like. So if you’re thinking of not enough money, you’re inevitably attracting more of the same.
Instead, you need to think thoughts of abundance, and it will start to flow into your life.
The Secret Team did a pretty cool thing with this idea. They created a blank check available for download on their site. The point is for you to fill it in with the amount you want, and put it in a prominent place.
Every day you’ll see it and focus on the feeling of spending that money, all the things you’ll buy with it, the things you’ll do, and the places you’ll go. This creates that feeling of abundance, triggering the law of attraction to give you what you want.
The Secret to the World
I studied communication in college. After taking my first media class, I gave up watching the news.
I realized the power that it has over our minds. If you’re constantly exposed to that kind of negativity, you’ll be held down by it.
In the book, Byrne explains how this phenomenon relates to the law of attraction.
“The news channels’ ratings skyrocket when there is a national or international disaster. So the newspapers and news services give us more bad news because, as a society, that’s what we are saying we want. The media is effect and we are cause. It is just the law of attraction in action!”
News networks would focus on more heart-warming stories if that’s what sold. But it doesn’t, because many people have the wrong mindset. They don’t understand the law of attraction.
The Secret to You
Let go of the past. It doesn’t serve you.
For many, this will be difficult. We can all recall an embarrassing moment from our teenage years, or a painful time in our life. But if that’s what you spend time thinking about, you’ll attract more of it.
The main idea that Byrne discusses in this chapter is the two most powerful words we can use — “I am”.
“When you say “I am,” the words that follow are summoning creation with a mighty force, because you are declaring it to be a fact. You are stating it with certainty.”
When you say “I am broke” or “I am late” or “I am fat“, you are sending that signal out to the universe. The law of attraction says, “OK, your wish is my command.”
Knowing this, you should monitor your thinking. Whenever you say or think “I am”, change the words that follow. Instead of “I am late”, think “I am always on time”.
Start small. Next time you go out somewhere, envision getting that parking space right out front. You’ll be amazed how many times you get it.
Then think bigger and bigger. Over time, you’ll trust that this is really the way the world works.
